  Contributor Biography:  William J. Travis 
 
William J. Travis, formerly Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University. He has published numerous articles on medieval art and iconography and is currently studying the sculptural decoration of the Ducal Palace in Venice.
