Richard M Berrong is Professor of French and co-coordinator of the GLBT Studies minor at Kent State University. He is the author of In Love with a Handsome Sailor: The Emergence of Gay Identity and the Novels of Pierre Loti and Rabelais and Bakhtin: Popular Culture in "Gargantua and Pantagruel", as well as other books and articles on French literature and opera.
