This past Friday, I spoke at a gathering about the merits of activism today. The gathering featured a video about student activism at the beginning of the civil rights movement. There was a speaker who had interviewed some participants in those movements.
During the question and answer portion, the question asked about the activism back in the early 1960's and activism now. I mentioned that in light of the economic situation activism is needed now more than ever. I presented an overview about the volunteer work that I do.
I know that young people are forming grassroots organizations all over the world. In the US, some have formed as a result of the Prop 8 fiasco in California. I have it in mind to create some kind of media in regards to transgender people. Don't have anything concrete but it's in the future.
Since last year, I have spoken out against the injustice and discrimination against LGBT people. That decision is gathering steam. There's so much at stake. It's odd that I never set out to be an activist but I couldn't sit idly by.
