On Thursday evening the GSA of the University of Michigan-Dearborn observed the Transgender Day of Remembrance. We began with a candlelight vigil with a reading of the names of transgender people murdered during the last year. We then heard from guests from Transgender Michigan who provided information about both their organization and their own experiences. The candid account from one young person who has only recently begun the transition from male to female was particularly touching. There were tears along the way in the telling of it, but it was good to see her conclude her remarks with expressions of being at peace with herself.

At the end of the program she showed a video of a performance poem that you can watch at:

I watched the video and it was great. What they were saying is so true. I felt that there was another person trying to come out of me shortly before my transition. When the day came I was at peace with myself.
