I have been pleased to read that several professional athletes have made videos in the HRC's campaign in favor of marriage equality in the state of New York. So far, Sean Avery (N. Y. Rangers, NHL), Steve Nash (Phoenix Suns, NBA), and Michael Strahan (retired from the N. Y. Giants, NFL) have participated.
There has also been news of sports teams supporting Dan Savage's "It Gets Better" project. The San Francisco Giants (MLB) have already made a video, and the Chicago Cubs (also MLB) are said to have one in the works.
In addition, Charles Barkley (retired after a career with stints on several NBA teams), has spoken out publicly against homophobia in sports. It is certainly true that the culture of athletics--men's sports in particular--has historically not been welcoming to glbtq athletes, and so it is great to see these prominent athletes taking a stand against discrimination.
Kudos to all of them!
If anyone knows of other athletes or teams who have made positive statements, please share the information so that we can all give a cheer for them as well. _________________ Linda |

The video by the Chicago Cubs is now on-line. You can watch it at:

It's good to see sports organizations getting involved in this worthy project.
Kudos to whoever thought of putting "It Gets Better" in lights on the iconic Wrigley Field sign. Great image! _________________ Linda |
