The University of Arizona Seeks Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Studies Director/Associate Professor
Contact: Queries and nominations should be addressed to Search Committee Chair at lgbs@u.arizona.edu. For information about applying, see below.
The University of Arizona Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Studies invites applications and nominations for the position of Director, contingent upon availability of funding. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be appointed as a tenured associate professor.
We are seeking a scholar whose research has made an original contribution to the interdisciplinary field of LGBT Studies. The candidate should also have outstanding administrative and leadership skills that can further the trajectory that has made LGBT Studies at the University of Arizona a national leader. We particularly encourage applications from scholars with expertise in Chicana/o, Latina/o, Ethnic, and/or Border Studies. Tenure home will be in a department in either the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences or the College of Humanities (as appropriate to the field of the candidate) and thus scholars in Humanities or Social Science fields are particularly encouraged to apply. Joint appointments are possible. The committee is seeking an individual who is able to work with diverse students and colleagues, and who has experience with a variety of teaching
methods and curricular perspectives.
The UA Committee on LGBT Studies develops curriculum, promotes research and presents public programming addressing the histories, politics, and cultures of LGBT people and the diverse scholarship on sexuality. Since our founding in 1993, we have created one of the most active and important sites for queer scholarship in the country. Our ongoing projects include scholarly programs such as the Sex, Race and Globalization Project and public programs such as the Lesbian Looks Film and Video Series (now in its 12th year). We offer an undergraduate General Education course, "Interdisciplinary Approaches to LGBT Studies" every semester. For more information see our website: lgbcom.web.arizona.edu
The Director is responsible for developing programming, pursuing funding to support that programming (including grantwriting), developing curriculum, chairing the interdisciplinary LGBT Studies Executive Committee, and managing LGBT Studies ongoing grant funded projects, budget and staff. The Director will also teach two courses per year, including the Gen. Ed. course mentioned above, and one course in his or her tenure home department.
Applications must be made online at www.uacareertrack.com (see job #31897). Please submit your CV and a letter of application describing your scholarship and administrative experience on that website. Please also send a writing sample and have 3 letters of recommendation sent directly to Search Committee Chair, Committee on LGBT Studies, 1731 E. Second Street, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ 85721. Queries and nominations should be addressed to Search Committee Chair at lgbs@u.arizona.edu. Review of applications will begin on January 3, 2005 and continue until the position is filled.
As an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, the University of Arizona recognizes the power of a diverse community and encourages applications from individuals with varied experiences and backgrounds. The University of Arizona is an EEO/AA - M/W/D/V Employer. |
