I just saw 'Unconditional Love' at the Philadelphia Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, I think it is a great movie, and I want to recommend it to evryone. The 'good news' is that the movie will not be released for theatrical exhibition by New Line Cinema because they can't figure out how to market it....so the 'bad news' is that the movie is going straight to DVD (any maybe VHS). Good news for consumers: you can pre-book the DVD through www.tlavideo.com (or your favorite gay movie provider) right now for delivery in October. How's this for a great cast: Kathy Bates, Rupert Everett, Lynn Redgrave, Dan Aykroyd, Jonathan Pryce, Richard Briers.....AND Julie Andrews, Barry Manilow, and Sally Jesse Raphael.....with Stephanie Beacham, Marcia Warren, Peter Sarsgaard, and Maeredith Eaton (as the dwarf daughter-in-law!!!). The Director is P.J. Hogan (My Best Friend's Wedding, Muriel's Wedding, etc.). Here is a VERY abbreviated plot line: A British 'Liberace' (Pryce) is murdered. Kathy Bates (a real fan) and Rupert Everett (his lover) team up to investigate. They catch the killer, sing a few songs, and establish all sorts of families and lovers in the process. A good gay time is had by all, and all live happily everafter. Highly recommended. -Rick.

I wondered why this film was never released. I've put it on my Netflix list and I am looking forward to it.

This is definitely a charming film. I didn't quite know wht to expect at first. A woman separates from her husband and travels to England to pay her condolences to her favorite singer's family, not knowing that he was gay. Kathy Bates just wins you over with her charm. Rupert Everett isquite funny, too. But, I think what makes the movie is theperformance of meredith Eaton as Kathy's daughter-in-law Maudey. She's so brash and open-minded...I just loved her character.
