Gay film director wins South Asian Achievers award

Coming on the heels of a successful opening of his new gay feature 'Yours Emotionally!' across festivals in US, Poland and Holland, internationally acclaimed director Sridhar Rangayan has one more reason to rejoice.

He was recently awarded the 'South Asian & Foreign Achievers Award' by Triangle Media, UK, which chose 50 achievers from around the globe who have made an outstanding mark and contribution in the global mainstream media.

The top Honorary Awards went to choreographer Farah Khan and director Jugmohan Mundra as well as special awards for actress Shabana Azmi and politicial Manjula Paul Sood.

In the film, theatre and drama category which commended Rangayan for his global work in film, other recepients included M.Night Shyamalan, Madhur Bhandarkar, Onir, and Sonali Kulkarni.

The awards were presented at an exclusive evening reception at University of Leicester Law School, UK on December 7, 2006 by legal scholar and Australian media guru David Flint.

Awards seem to flow into Rangayan's kitty quite naturally. He has earlier won the 'Jury Award for Best Film' at New York and France for his film 'The Pink Mirror' as well as a 'Remi Bronze Award' at WorldFest, Houston for his children film 'Yeh Hai Chakkad Bakkad Bumbe Bo'.
