Dear Carmen,
I have not read the novel that you mention, but I think that it is probably *Written on the Body* (London: Jonathan Cape, 1992). According to a description on Ms. Winterson's web site (www.jeannettewinterson.com), the narrator of the story is not named, nor is there any allusion to the person's gender. I hope that this is helpful.
