I am very interested in Utopian literature. I have read most of the classics from Plato's Repulic through Orwell's 1984 and more recent publications. But I have been very dissatisfied with the visions of sexuality that have been presented and the repercusions on society as a whole. Most novels deal very well with political and economic ideals, but they deal with sexual issues as a sidebar. Most say that the consensual choices of adults should be respected (except for Margaret Atwood's 'Handmaid's Tale').

However, I am looking for novels that really explore different concepts in sexuality and, most importantly, show the subsequent changes that would follow in society. I would hope that Utopia literature shows gay and lesbian issues in a postive light, but I would even be interested in literature that presents other views (GLBT as negative, incest, fetishes, etc.) .

When I read utopian literature from the 19th centruy, it is not nearly as shocking to me as it would have been to someone one hundred years ago because we have already achieved many of the changes that were demanded. That is why I want to see utopian literature today, it points the way for where we should be going.

I would appreciate any advise that can be offerred.
