I am a transgendered teen (female)... and I have been having difficulty trying to figure out... what to say to people when they ask me. I mean, I'm not dressing as a male figure, so it's not apparent. But... does anyone have advice for someone... new to it? It's not like I just say "hey, by the way!..." but... it does stick with me and I want to tell the people around me... _________________ "And if I'm flying solo.... at least I'm flying free..." ~ WICKED

I'm having a similar issue with visibility myself. You have to decide how much you want and need to tell people, and who you need to tell. My approach has been to politely correct people when they call me by the wrong pronoun or title, and if they ask for an explanation or think I'm joking, just to quietly say "I'm a guy" or "I'm transgender and identify as a guy."
This is mostly an academic forum, and not a support forum, though, so I'm afraid any specific advice is beyond my scope. I'd be happy to list some support resources, however, if you'd like.

Hello BwayBaby. Sorry for the late reply. And I can’t really advise you as to what to tell someone. But I can tell you this.
You said that you are a female in your post. So never, ever appear, or tell someone other wise.
The road of transition, gets kinder, and more fully accepted by those around you, if you live, show, and never waver from your convictions.
You can’t give someone that is lost, directions. When they see that you are uncertain of your directions as well.
“We judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have already done. -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow”
And I know this to be true, because of my own personal experiences. I became 6 yrs. Post-Op March 20, 2006. And I have been told that I have paved the way for any other Transsexuals that may come “Out”, at least in this little no-where city, and surrounding area, of Kansas. Eight years ago, I was where you are now. I had to tell them who, and what I was also. Those I told, believe me now.
I never wavered from my convictions for being the female I said I was.
We have all heard the old phrase. “Actions speak louder than words”.
Believe me. It’s more truth, than fiction. But people seem to formulate their ideas, understanding, and beliefs about things. More so, from what they see, rather than what they are told, or read.

I can't tell you how much and who you should tell. I came out to my spouse as a transvestite last week. I'm dealing with it now. One thing I do know is that I have no intention of going back in the closet. All I can say is pick your spots when you can. I'm happy that you are coming to understand who you are.
