| Eh? You can't test for every possible STD. Even if you could, that's a lot of time and money. Wouldn't it just be easier to use protection? |

You both can get tested together for the standard sexually transmitted infections including acquired immune deficiency syndrome human immunodeficiency virus. Testing is available for no charge.

| It's still not feasable to test for everything. Even if you got tested for every known STD and came back negetive, there's still the possibility of unknown STDs. |

If you can't be tested for all stds... what std can't you be tested
for?... And if you can't be tested for it, how do you know it
exists?... What's the name of this std? If it doesn't have a name
let's call it std x. And if there is an std x how do you know it
exists.
Do all the stds have names? How were they discovered?...
What's the deal here?
1. Are there stds for which there are no tests?...
2. What's the cost for testing?...
3. Have you access to a clinic that tests for them all ?...
There're some stds there're no tests for.
Is it easier to use protection faultlessly every single sexual
encounter or get tested once at the beginning of a relationship?...
If you never have the first test you can't have another test later.
The strategy says nothing about getting tested again.

hi there,
well, AFAIK there's a test for every single std out there we know of but for some std's (eg HIV) you need to wait for at least a couple weeks after your last sexual encounter to make sure the test result is valid. In the mean time: no sex (and for hepatitis b not even kissing). and you gotta be sure your partner doesn't cheat on you ;-)
if you wanna be on the safe side you may prefer protection

Hello Don. There's a really good overview of getting testing for STDS/AIDS as part of a relationship and how to navigate it, especailly if one partner or the other slips up. It's in Appendix II "Negotiated Safety", in the book Life Outside: The Signorile Report on Gay Men: Sex, Drugs, Muscles and the Passages of Life, by Michelangelo Signorile. I read through it and I think it's quite good. Maybe this might be helpful to you.

The strategy is getting tested together before sex. Getting tested together after isn't the strategy.
