Excuse me for my shameless promotion but I have wrtten a full legnth one man show on Montgomery Clift, The Rarest of Birds, that will open on June 1st at the Wings Theatre. 212-627-2961, wingstheatre.com (Playtime Partener Series) 154 Christopher street. If a group of us went togeher could get producer to knock down ticket from 18 to 10. Assortment of day but one is Friday July 4th. See show. Then go see fireworks?
(other dates follow if that won't work)
For 15 years they have been trying to develop a show afout Clift but his life is so complex with so many aspect not sutiable script has ever been realized. Same with the stage. To my knowledge this is the first. One man show with actor playing Clift bares actual resemblence to Clift. Sensational acting. People cried at staged reading. Show will concentrate on just what a genuis Clift was (Alfred Lunt said he could have been as great as Olivier) and how important he was to American Cinema. Sadley, It's also a tradgic story in that he died at 45 and one of the factors that contributed greatly to his demise was the homophobia of the 50's and 60's that haunted him. John Wood 917-822-8642. If the 4th doesn't work there are nine other dates: June 1, 7,8,10,21,28,29, July 1, 2, 4. NOTE: June 7, 21 and 28 3 o'clock matinees. Would love to go as a group. Fellowhip, chat afterwards. Great to take a date. I plan too. Straight but curious, _________________ Written one man show on Montgomery Clift vividy shows how repressive homophobia destroyed on of our greatest actors |

Montgomery Clift could have been one of the all-time greats. I saw him in the 1948 western 'Red River' of which I have the video. I also saw him In 'From Here to Eternity' and the lesser known 'I Confess'. I read his bio and it was sad that he was tormented by his homosexuality.
