The GLBTQ article titled "Circuit Parties" by Kenneth Cimino makes the claim that:

"The survey found that the men's favorite party drugs were Ecstasy (also known as ''X'' or "E"), which gives users a sense of well-being and unlimited energy but also can cause brain damage; ...."

I'm interested in the "brain damage" claim. I recall similar claims about "brain damage" (chromosome damage, etc.) caused by marijuana, LSD, et al. back in the 60s/70s. Many of these studies were seriously flawed.

The claim that "rave drugs" are seriously dangerous has been used repeatedly, throughout the world, to stigmatize dance partying and dance music DJs and producers. Drug "dangers" are often the result of the invasion of scenes by criminal elements who could care less about issues of quality and health risks.

If the science/medical community has concluded that ecstasy causes brain damage (I don't see the relevant study in Mr. Cimino's citations), then it might be a good idea to include an "Ecstasy" article in the database as a heads-up.

Certainly, it can't be overstated, people need to know about possible dangers of drug usage. On the other hand, GLBTQ specializes in clearing-up the lies of history, not repeating them. If ecstasy is that widely used, and is really that dangerous, then certainly the subject warrants a separate, serious treatment on GLBTQ's pages.
