I was listening to recorded interview with the late Harvey Milk. The first gay official elected in SF in the seventies, Milk stated many positions which are so true today. One was that a person had to know why they believe in a postion rather than just say you agree with it.
What I gather from the statement is that activists need to be willing to stick their necks out even though it may cost them something. It's one reason I encourage transgender people to tell their own stories. It's also the reason that the WHOLE lgbt community needs to see the whole picture.
We need to tell those who disagree with us about our positions. Why we believe in our positions is very important.
