This month Manchester District Music Archive is launching 'Queer Noise' - an online exhibition that explores LGBT music and club culture in Greater Manchester, UK.
The exhibition contains scores of artefacts from 1962 to the present day, including oral histories, videos, streamed mp3s, press articles, posters, flyers and photos, all displayed in a Flash-based gallery and timeline.
It touches on 1950s Canal Street, the draconian reign of homophobic Chief Constable James Anderton, how Manchester fought back through a house music explosion, alternative clubbing and the music-making of the like of Pete Shelley, Morrissey and newcomers Cherry Ghost.
There is an introduction and exclusive essay by Jon Savage.
