Genda should have passed the same night that marriage became law. DIDN't groups like ESPA And NYAGrA push the issue or did they get caught in the euphoria. While I'm happy that marriage equality passed, trans people got jobbed again. NEW YORK COuld have set a precedent by trans people celebrating the passage of GENDa. IT WAS NOT TO BE AND THAT'S A REAL SHAME. GENNEE

I agree with you, Gennee, that it would have been good to see both pieces of legislation passed at the same time, but the political reality is that the likelihood of that was virtually nil. Although we would like to see great changes come swiftly, we must be ready to stay committed to the cause of equality and to keep up our efforts despite (inevitable) disappointments and delays. Even in disappointment, we should try not to become discouraged, but rather to become all the more determined.

Let us hope that supporters of GENDA will prevail in the very near future. Meanwhile, there is cause for celebration in Connecticut, where the governor has just signed an anti-discrimination bill. Though I'm disappointed, I'm not quitting either. I will do whatever I can to see that the best bill tht benefits transgender people will pass.
