Written By Hanifah Walidah
Black Folks Quiet Little Secret Explored
International Musician/Actress Hanifah Walidah's One Woman Comedy/Drama with original Music explores a taboo subject in the African American Community. Black Homophobia. For years, this unresolved issue has been tearing away at the fabric of the Black Family and pushing the Black Community further apart from each other. Even when someone in their own family is in an Alternative lifestyle, many remain in a state of denial as to the existence of any problem. Modern day writers traditionally avoid this sensitive issues but not Hanifah. Her piece "Black Folks Guide To Black Folks" is Ground Breaking in it's content and style. With the feel and style of Zora Neal Hurston for whom she has been compared with (except Hanifah has a gap tooth). She takes you on a wild and hilarious Journey through this "around the way" neighborhood, portraying 12 everyday characters. She has written new original songs and music for the NY Debut. This loving study of Black Homophobia is done with great sensitivity and skill. Hanifah Walidah has received critical success with this piece in Oakland,California. The show has toured Nationwide in colleges such as Yale University.Harvardand Stanford among others. The initial run of the show will be for 3 weeks at
