While studying classical musicology and music history in Frankfurt, I found that much of the classcial composers are in a way or other homosexuals. Chopin had a gay mate, a physician, called Ściefan Dziakoń. The Post Freudians have explained Beethoven's queer relations with women by his homosexuality. Tchaikovsky, with his brother, were defenitely invert. Franz Schubert, despite all the recent dispute about his sexuality, is Probably queer as well.
Could Homosexuality have a relation to musical innovation? _________________ A sadist is always at the same time a masochist

Dear friend
Homosexuality over the ages has been frequenly associated with artistic talent and highly aesthetic taste. This has been seen in many painters, sculptors, writers, thinkers and philosophers. Naturally this may apply to music talent as well. But we should not exaggerate about this; many other famous people with artistic talent were definitely straight. _________________ Love all,

Dearest Humanman,
You are right about not exaggerating about the relation between artisitic talents, and sexual attitude, the reason behind many homosexuals having such talents, may be the opression and abuse they were subject to at these times. This opression as it could cause destruction and deterioration of the human mind, it could generate supreme talents and abilities, but the more homosexuals get their rights, the less opression they will face and the more similarity they will have with heterosexuals. _________________ A sadist is always at the same time a masochist

What does it matter, for heaven's sake? Homosexuality is not a 'condition', it's a continuum of interest or attraction or whatever, and it's hardly surprising that exceptionally talented or creative people should be more inclined to have richer and more diverse characters. This tendency to poke around for 'dirty secrets' in order to denigrate or explain is neither very attractive nor very helpful |

From what I've read and gleaned from various sources over the past fifteen years I am still curious why people close to Leonard Bernstein didn't or couldn't seem to help him deal with his compositional torment. Why was he was left to struggle trying to please the concert hall taliban when his compositional talents leaned in another direction? Certainly someone he admired and trusted could have convinced him to not be beholding to others with a hidden agenda (hey, Lenny write a great symphony for me to premiere!) such as Koussevitsky. Things have fortunately changed since those closeted and constritive times regarding personal and career arcs John Poole (clueless earthling- hetero variety) see: wyncoteacademy.org (faculty) for short and abridged bio. _________________ dinnerpianist |

Music is one medium we can share or expressed ourselves and maybe this is one of the reason why most homosexual expressed themselves through music. _________________ "I've failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed."
