I attended the Newfest Film Festival last night and saw two fine documentaries. The first one was a 30 minute feature called Sexualidad. It is about Cuba's first sex education course designed for transgendered women. It was formed at the time the AIDS epidemic started to hit the island.
The main feature was called Cruel and Unusual, a documentary about transgendered women in prison. The filmmakers interviewed inmates at various prisons around the country. Transgendered women are housed with male inmates and are subjected to harassment and physical violence by inmates and some guards. This film hopefully will be shown in theaters, LGBT centers, schools, and law and medical professsions.
