Primarily a British legal term, buggery is anal penetration, whether in homosexual, heterosexual, or bestial intercourse. It derives from the word "Bulgaria" and dates to the medieval period, when some heretics of that nation were accused of sodomitical practices. In current slang usage, again primarily British, it most often refers to homosexual anal intercourse.
