Advice

What advice can you offer queer musical artists who are just starting out?

Shawna: Do your best to find serious musicians who are truly going after the same vision. And just go for it! Be serious about every aspect; dedicate a part of your life to the band. Nothing crazy, but everyone needs to know they can count on you when its time to rock. Also, don't use cheap crap! A decent guitar player on a crappy guitar sounds, well. . . crappy.

Tori: Do it properly. People will inevitably see you as a representative of your community, so you should really be working at being good. Which means working at rehearsing, learning from your mistakes, learning from other bands/artists. We've certainly seen people assuming that we are a novelty act of some kind, but when we start up, they quickly forget about that!
