Inspiration

Sarafina Maraschino (vocals, rhythm/lead guitar, slide guitar ): When I arrived in the Bay Area in the late 90s, I automatically assumed that every corner bar would have some tranny diva singing torch songs at the piano, but to my surprise, I mostly encountered lip-synching acts. Which is fine; but I'm a musician. Where were the other tranny musicians? Fortunately, I received an email from Tori, who after seeing my profile online decided to send me a message saying that she was starting a "band of t-girl adventuresses" and asked if I "wanted to play." Naturally, I assumed that she meant "band" as in music, so I responded saying that this was something that I had been wanting to do for quite some time, and blathered on and on about my musical resume. Her response was simple; she said that when she said "band of adventuresses," she meant "band" as in "band of merry men." But, she did happen to be a keyboard player, and the idea of starting a tranny band was a good one! And the rest is history.

Sarafina Maraschino performs at the Sex Worker's Film Fest in San Francisco.
