Sound

Some people have characterized your sound as '80s revival. How would you characterize it?

Shawna: Someone at the last gig said our sound was very '70s and I tend to agree. '80s music was more synth-based, (e.g. Aha, Duran Duran, Flock of Seagulls, Depeche Mode, and so on). Our sound is more guitar based and reminds me more of '70s AM radio. It's a lot like light rock, but its got more oomph! I really don't know WHAT to call it!

Influences

Which queer artists have had the biggest influence on Lipstick Conspiracy?

Shawna: I don't know many queer musical artists. And I don't know which ones have had any influence on us. Um. . . Little Richard? Elton John? Is Prince gay? He's definitely had an influence on me personally.

Shawna Love plays San Francisco Pride 2005.
