Sound
Tori: I can see where the "1980s rock" tag comes from, in that we’re a song-driven band with rich instrumentation and melodies and harmonies, which haven’t always been fashionable since the '80s. But we think of ourselves as a mainstream rock band, where we’re just trying to write good songs, then deliver an arrangement that works for the song, but is still recognizably us. That results in a pretty diverse sound--where members of our audience have different favorite songs, and think that we sound a bit like a whole range of bands (from U2 to the B52s to the Monkees).
Influences
Tori: I like quite a few artists who happen to be queer (such as Boy George or George Michael or Tracy Chapman), but that’s because I like their music, not because they’re queer. So my musical tastes are very much driven by the music, rather than the (presumed) orientation of the artist.
