Elizabeth Jefts Dowd (b. 1984) addresses her experience of Western medicine in a series of images entitled "My Medical History."

Dowd describes her experience of Western medicine as "cold and diagnostic. I never felt identified as myself, rather I was matched to a folder with my name and prescribed ambiguous medicine." In response to the "sterile" medical system, Dowd has embraced a "philosophy of healing that encourages breath."
