Marion Pinto (b. 1935) paints in a style that has been called "conceptual realism," reflecting her intention to allow the content of each painting to dictate its style.
In "Deer France at CBGBs," Pinto used an abstract and minimalist style to create an iconic representation of its legendary subject. Deer France is a musician who also worked at CBGBs, a mecca for punk rockers in the 1980s, and introduced bands including Devo and the B-52s to New York City.
Pinto is now at work on what she describes as her "next and last" series, which will be comprised of paintings of her family spanning a one-hundred-year time period. Pinto says she will borrow "styles from the masters, . . . placing each person in the historical time frame that shaped the way they saw themselves." |
