Despite a difficult and impoverished childhood, Elizabeth Arden (1881-1966) created a beauty and cosmetics empire that made her one of the most successful businesspersons of the twentieth century.

The company she founded continues to flourish. Elizabeth Arden, Inc. had a market capitalization of $522 million in July 2006.
